And Remembering God

For the Soul:

I was thinking about the patient who worried about her grandchildren's diet, as I headed out into a beautiful winter evening for a walk-jog, or a "wog." I admit to being a fair-weather-wogger. I soaked up the last of the sunshine and felt the gentle breeze and did "intervals." Since doing intervals forms a sort of "kind exercise" to line up with "kind repentance," this evening's wog qualified for the words, "it doesn't get any better than this."

I rounded a curve and saw my neighbor, a very godly man, out feeding his miniature Herefords cows. He wore a drab cowboy coat and a baseball cap and sat in a green plastic chair as he  tossed cattle cubes, one by one, to the cows.  They came pretty close but still kept a safe distance from him.  I could hear him calling to them as he tossed each cube.  He didn't look up as I rounded the curve.

I wogged along on my loop and twenty-two minutes later approached him again. He'd finished feeding them and stood behind his chair still watching the cows. They were a bit closer to him now even though he had no more cattle cubes for them.

He spotted me this time and waved. I hollered,  "They seem like your pets!" At the same time I was thinking, "I know he raises these to sell for meat." He yelled back one word, "Bonding."

He meant that he wants to train them since he has to work them, and someday he has to lead them into a cattle chute, and then to a meat processor.

"Ahh." I thought, "And that's how God is with us. None of us will get out of this life alive.  Life, then, is about learning to trust God until the day comes that we cross over and see Him face to face."

So, among other things, He feeds us.  He gives us our "daily bread" which means He meets our needs.  Not our wants, just our needs.

I suspect it pleases God for us to eat food as close to the ground as possible since that's how He made it, so primarily plant based, non-processed foods are the most useful to keep us healthy.  Highly processed and habituating foods that capitalize on sugar, salt, fat or some combination, probably displease God.

Can you imagine: the entire junk food industry answering to God. But I don't think He cares if people are only vegan, fruitarian, or raw foodies, etc.  He just wants us healthy.  Winston Churchill said this, "Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have."
